Our Most Recent Egypt Trip 2024

Traveling is a lot of fun and is oftentimes a life changing experience. Even a quick weekend trip to a local city or mountain can be nice, but there is something extra special about taking a two week trip to another part of the world! When you travel for two weeks, it gives you enough time to truly adjust, relax, explore, and experience the country and culture that you are visiting. We are the Dandelion Journals, and we offer travel experiences for women’s traveling groups. One of our favorite places to visit is Egypt, and we had 2 great trips here in 2024!

From October 14th through October 28th, 2024 the Dandelion Journals team set off with our group on an unforgettable trip to Egypt. In today’s article we want to share this trip with you, including some of the highlights from our itinerary and some tips for your Egypt vacation.

Places to See on an Egypt Trip

As you may have seen under the journeys section on our website menu, we have our Egypt itinerary along with the other countries that we frequent, so you may have already read about the highlights of our Egypt adventures. However, keep reading because this article will share even more details and pictures of the latest trip that we just took in October!

Before we get into the specifics of the trip, let’s go over the list of places that we visited. In fact, if you ever decide to take an Egypt trip yourself, we strongly encourage you to check these places out! Here’s where we went:

  • Cairo, Old, New, Coptic, Jewish and Islamic
  • The Nile River, upper and lower
  • The Giza Plateau – The Great Pyramids and Sphinx
  • Step Pyramids of Saqqara & Serapeum
  • Historic Aswan
  • Nubian Village
  • The Aswan Dam
  • The Philae Temple
  • Seheil Island
  • Kom Ombo
  • Edfu Temple
  • Valley of the Kings
  • Hatshepsut Temple
  • Colossi of Memnon
  • Karnak Temple
  • Luxor Temple and the sacred Mosque of Abu el-Haggag
  • Valley of The Kings
  • The Red Sea
  • The ancient Mediterranean Port City of Alexandria

Yes, believe it or not we covered ALL of that and more in our two-week trip to Egypt! This included a 3-night Nile cruise, a hot air balloon ride, beach swims, a desert Bedouin Adventure, museum visits, delicious food, and countless historical sites and cultural centers, and a whole lot of shopping! Not only is the amount of history and ancient structures and artifacts astounding in Egypt, but so is the age of those histories. While historical sites in the U.S. date back 300 or 400 years, in Egypt there are sites that date back 4,000 years and more! It is surreal to see, firsthand, all of these amazing sites, many of which are found in common American history textbooks. Now that you understand just how fun packed this trip was, we’ll break it down a bit further and go into more detail.

Our Group Egypt Vacation

Our incredible women’s group trip to Egypt was a whirlwind of adventure and bonding! Starting in the vibrant city of Cairo, we immersed ourselves in its rich blend of ancient history and lively modern culture. We kicked off our journey with a fun walking tour, followed by a memorable dinner cruise on the Nile, complete with captivating entertainment.

The iconic ancient ruins of Egypt took our breath away, as we explored the Step Pyramid of Saqqara and descended into the subterranean chambers that once housed the sacred Apis bulls, the Serapeum of Sakkara. Of course, The Great Pyramid, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a highlight that left us all in awe.  There aren’t words to express the excitement we felt standing next to these unparalleled ancient wonders.

Next, we ventured to Aswan, soaking in the sun and local culture while staying on the banks of the Nile. We enjoyed a traditional Nubian lunch, with a special class on making Sand heated Nubian Coffee, followed by an exploration of Nubian Village and visiting with locals on Seheil Island and set sail on a three-night cruise along the river, filled with laughter and shared experiences. We explored ancient sites like the Temple of Kom Ombo and the charming town of Edfu, deepening our connections with one another.

In Luxor, we delved into the fascinating Valley of the Kings and marveled at the magnificent Hatshepsut Temple. We shared special moments cruising the Nile and crossing the Esna Lock, all while discovering the magical atmosphere of Karnak Temple and witnessing the enchanting light display at Luxor Temple.

As our adventure continued, we soared high in a hot air balloon over Luxor, taking in the breathtaking views at dawn. Our next stop was the stunning Red Sea, where we snorkeled, dove, and rode ATVs in the desert, embracing the thrill of the outdoors while creating unforgettable memories together.

After returning to Cairo, we explored the historic city of Alexandria, immersing ourselves in its culture and visiting the Catacombs and the Citadel of Qaitbay. We also marveled at ancient jewelry in the Royal Jewelry Museum, enjoying every moment of our exploration.

Our journey concluded with visits to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the Cairo Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, where we marveled at mummies and artifacts that tell the story of 5,000 years of history. From shopping in modern Cairo to exploring the city’s diverse religious significance, every day was filled with adventure, laughter, and deepening friendships. This trip was truly a celebration of friendship and exploration that we will cherish forever!
